What to wear for your Engagement session

Planning Your Dream Wedding

November 24, 2020

back to blog

When you book a wedding with me, you get a complimentary engagement session. Engagement sessions are at the beginning of your wedding planning process. You may be more focused on looking amazing for your wedding, but it’s also important to look your best for your engagement session. Some people think this is a more casual occasion, but when you think about it, you want to absolutely look your best in your engagement pictures and when you plan on looking your best, your photos will also look amazing. The dressier the better!

Many people tend to picture their engagement session with matching sweaters and jeans, but that is not always the case. I’m sure you’ve come across engagement sessions where the couples looked like they went all out or they were wearing really cute outfits and looked adorable. If you want to be amazed with your engagement pictures, you should wear something you feel amazing in. You might consider yourself to be a casual couple, but that is one reason I allow two outfits changes during the session. One can be a cute casual outfit and one can be formal or semi formal. Or it could be the case where you couldn’t decide between two dresses and you decided to wear both. Then, you get the best of both worlds. The groom also doesn’t have to wear a jacket the whole time. He could take it off and just wear a vest or dressy shirt.

Colors

When it comes to colors, you don’t have to both wear the same color. It is best to wear colors that go well together. For example, he could wear a white shirt with khaki pants and she could wear a blush pink dress. It is best to wear light and creamy colors to get that light and airy look, but I also love a pop of color every now and then. My favorite is Navy tuxes with blush dresses, red dresses with black suits, teal dresses and navy tuxes with white dresses. I don’t know why but I love navy haha. Also, you can never go wrong with a blush dress!

Flowy Skirts

Also you don’t have to wear a dress! A long flowy skirt is amazing as well. Or a big puffy skirt. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the Mr. pretty skirts, but they are amazing! They could add so much flair to any engagement session! If you don’t have the budget, Amazon has some similar ones that actually look great in pictures! And they are at a much lower price! Mr. Pretty just has a larger variety. So, now you have an idea of what outfits to wear. Don’t forget to get your makeup done as well. Since it isn’t your wedding, it should be way cheaper to get it professionally done.. My happily ever after engagement session also includes a makeup artist and a hair stylist, so you don’t have to worry about that. It’s also included with the complimentary engagement session in my bigger wedding package. Also, you don’t have to wear heels, but it is preferred since heels are so flattering. If you really hate heels, you can wear flats. I think the most comfortable heels are wedges. If you wear heels, I recommend bringing some comfortable shoes too. You can wear earrings and other jewelry if you want. I recommend that the guys wear dress shoes as well.

Props

Besides your hair, makeup and outfit, you can bring other things like props. A lot of photographers don’t like props but I think props can really add flair to an engagement session and make it look unique. For example, you could bring a bouquet of flowers, a basket of flowers, or even one of those cage purses filled with flowers or a bird haha. A cage purse with a bird in it would be unique. Speaking of birds, you can bring your pets!! Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, even birds I guess if you have a cage to carry it in haha. It’s more common that people bring dogs and sometimes cats or bunnies. If you feel you want your furry animal to be with you for your engagement pictures, bring them! It will look super cute! And I’ll post it like everywhere too! Haha.

That’s all I have about what to wear or what to bring. I hope this gives you ideas. Of course, bring your ring. We can get some special ring shots if you want!. I hope this helps! Message me if you have any questions. I don’t mind helping you come up with something special for your special day!
